i am getting laid off very soon been working for 8 months as a supervisor can i get unemployment? and how?

I am a shift supervisor for a staffing company, and the client we work for is real slow right now so i am being laid off until they pick up. This will probably be 2-6 months. I have only been working for this company since July 2005 can i get unemployment?
I have never filed before so i am not sure how it works. I thank anyone that can help me ou with what i should do, since i will be getting my job back i dont want to go looking, but i need income during the lay off. Thanks again
