Did the original Spanish settlers in Arizona keep their land when the territory was sold to the US? Names?

I've read that independence from Spain had little effect on the area and assume the settlers around Tubac and Tucson remained. But, with the Gadsden Purchase, did their status change? I wonder if there are any family names I could research.
